Cottage Country VS. Busy City (Mental Health Benefits)

Preface

We all know that getting outside is good for you, but in what way? We know that nature can make us feel good, but how does it do that? Does the beauty of the outdoors affect more than just our physical health? We’re here to tell you that cottage living is about so much more than fun activities and beautiful scenery. It can shine through the depths of your soul; bringing you better mental health, a positive mindset, and truly a “breath of fresh air”.

According to Global News, many Canadians are beginning to choose cottage country over “big city” vacations. Remax does an annual recreational property report and their most recent study found that almost 68% of surveyors would take a quiet getaway lounging at a cottage over a big city getaway. But why?

How does it help?

Many people find themselves feeling calmer, more relaxed and more focused when spending time outside. This is because it is proven that being in nature can improve your mental state. According to Ontario Parks, there is a strong connection the time spent in nature and reduced negative emotions. Who doesn’t love a good walk outside?

This means that outside time can assist in reducing stress, anxiety and psychosomatic illnesses like insomnia, irritability and tension headaches.

Covid-19

we know that in the time of covid, being in larger crowds could create spikes in covid cases as well as cause stress for the people involved. So, it is a no brainer that this could change the minds of vacationers everywhere. Staying in a calmer, quieter place like a cottage decreases the worry of contracting covid-19. It is a safer option, both mentally and physically.

Other Benefits

Time with nature has been known to help with other issues as well. It may help you if you are having trouble sleeping, grieving a loss, dealing with creative block, etc.

Some activities you can do are: take a walk in the woods, workout outdoors, sit in the grass, go camping, stay at a peaceful cabin, and so much more.

Conclusion

In conclusion, many Canadians are choosing countryside cottage getaways far more than big city vacations. This could be very well connected to the fact that the outdoors has such a strong connection to improving mental health and reducing the effects of mental illnesses. We want you to know that if you are struggling, you are not alone. Here at Friendly Fires Getaway, we do our best to provide you with a peaceful and relaxing space because we know how much it matters.
